Book Review -Tales from the Coop

Tales from the Coop by Sophie McCoy

Edited by Sophie Mccoy, Tales from the Coop: The Joy of Ex Battery Hens is a collection of stories, poems, photos and more by ordinary people who’ve already opened their hearts and coops to rescued battery hens. From chicken friendships and a hen’s love of treats, to the first moving glimpse of freedom from the battery cage. Tales from the Coop is a must for anyone considering adopting battery hens and those who already have. All profits from the sale of Tales from the Coop will go to the British Hen Welfare Trust and Little Hen Rescue.

I was thrilled to be asked by Sophie Mccoy to contribute my photographs to the book, regular readers of The Garden Smallholder blog may recognise the front and back cover photographs, along with a few photos within the book.

  1. Reblogged this on albertgenau.

  2. Awesome about the photos! The cover is stunning :) One day I dream of owning hens!

  3. Thanks Anna! Chickens are great! They’re brilliant gardeners in the right places too such as clearing pests from soil and scratching over weedy beds, not so great on a seed bed for example! Nothing beats collecting your own fresh eggs and their waste goes straight into the compost bins.

  4. Sounds fab and all for a great cause! I’ve shared a link on my AllotmentBlog Twitter account. Can’t wait to read my own copy.

  5. Thanks Anna!

  6. This is too cute. I’ve heard that battery hens are the most loving kind of hens to keep, especially for a beginner.

  7. Hi Karen! Thought I’d pop in and say hello… can’t believe this – well I can because you’re so talented….. but it’s FANTASTIC news!

Published photographer – got a nice ring to it hasn’t it!?

    Nice one!
